In a hilarious new piece of fan art, Daredevil and Elektra swap costumes! Artist @residenteuph unveiled the piece on Twitter, showing Elektra wearing a Daredevil outfit, and Matt Murdoch is wearing Elektra’s outfit. While the piece is largely played for laughs, it also reveals a deeper understanding of both Daredevil and Elektra’s characters.
@residenteuph’s piece is inspired by events that have been unfolding in Chip Zdarsky’s Daredevil. Daredevil accidentally let a person die and was forced to stand trial in his costumed identity. He was found guilty and sentenced to prison. However, Hell’s Kitchen still needed a guardian, so in his absence, Elektra took up the mantle of Daredevil, complete with a new take on the classic costume, injecting it with her own flair. In prison, Daredevil uncovered a conspiracy involving dosing prisoners with drugs to make them more violent, while Elektra has had to contend with Wilson Fisk aka the Kingpin, who attempted to clone an army of Bullseyes. Fisk, the Mayor of New York City, has also began a smear campaign against the city’s heroes, culminating in the current Devil’s Reign event. As Devil’s Reign, and the first act of Zdarsky’s Daredevil comes to an end, artist @residenteuph offers a humorous take on these events, with the two heroes swapping outfits.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY
In a Tweet, @residenteuph showed off the piece, saying it was only appropriate that Matt Murdoch rock an Elektra outfit, now that she is Daredevil. The piece shows Elektra, in her unique Daredevil costume, swinging into action in Hell’s Kitchen with Matt Murdoch absolutely killing it in an Elektra outfit. Murdoch made only one modification to the outfit, adding a blindfold over his eyes. In the background is a neon cross, with the word “God” written in both directions. The piece has received positive response from fans, with some noting that the Elektra outfit actually looks good on Murdoch.
@residenteuph’s new fan art reflects on events transpiring in Daredevil, with Elektra replacing Matt Murdoch, but it also shows a deep understanding of Daredevil’s character, namely the religious iconography in the background. Daredevil’s Catholicism is very important to him, informing his decisions and providing him solace in dark times, and @residenteuph’s picture captures this. The art also perfectly recreates Daredevil and Elektra’s relationship; Matt Murdoch is more public and open, hence the reason he is in the foreground. However, Elektra is all about stealth and being the silent weapon who no one sees coming thus making her placement in the background perfect.
Daredevil and Elektra are one of Marvel’s greatest couples, with a relationship built on trust and loyalty—so much that Elektra agreed to fill in for Daredevil while he was away and fan @residenteuph offers a humorous take on this swap in a new piece of fan art.
